Tuk-Tuks
These three-wheelers are a popular way to get around cities
and towns in Sri Lanka. They are quick, ideal for short distances, and can
navigate through narrow streets. Always agree on a fare before starting the
ride or use metered tuk-tuks.
Buses
Public buses, operated by both government and private
companies, connect most destinations. They are the cheapest option but can be
crowded and slow. Express buses are faster for longer routes.
Trains
The scenic train rides, especially the Kandy to Ella route,
are a highlight. Trains are affordable and offer a relaxed way to see the
countryside.
Private Taxis
Comfortable and convenient for long-distance travel. Can be
booked through apps or hotels.
Rental Cars and Motorbikes
For flexibility, tourists can rent cars or motorbikes. A
local driver’s permit is required for car rentals.
Domestic Flights
Quickest way to cover large distances. Domestic airlines
operate flights between Colombo, Jaffna, and other key cities. Ideal for
time-conscious travelers.
